When Change Does Not Ask Permission — And Why It Comes Anyway
Traditional Oya shrine in Oyo with carved figures and ritual offering bowl representing transformation, movement, and spiritual clearing in the force of Oya.
There are moments when life does not move gently.
Things shift without warning.
What you built begins to move.
What you held onto is no longer stable.
Most people try to hold it in place.
But not everything is meant to be held.
There is a force that does not wait for readiness.
It moves when it is time.
In the Ifá tradition, that force is known through Ọya.
Not as chaos.
Not as destruction without reason.
But as the power that clears what can no longer remain.
Ọya is the wind that does not ask permission.
She does not negotiate with stagnation.
She does not remain where truth has been ignored.
She moves.
In the Oríkì, she is called:
Afẹfẹ tí í sèwé oko laalo laalo
The wind that scatters what is settled
Efufu lele tí í sègi agbon giagia
The storm that shakes even the rooted tree
What appears as disruption is not random.
It is movement where something has already reached its limit.
There are times in your life when:
What you are holding is already breaking
What you are maintaining is already unstable
What you are protecting is already misaligned
And still, you try to keep it.
But some things are not removed by thought.
They are removed by force.
Ọya represents the moment when life no longer waits for your decision.
It moves for you.
This is why change can feel sudden.
Not because it began suddenly.
But because it was ignored until it could no longer be ignored.
There is a reason she is also called:
Iyami Afẹfẹ tí í sèlé olùbí gbakegbake
The wind that enters and clears what is no longer right
Not everything that leaves your life is a loss.
Some things leave because they cannot remain in truth.
The same way Ṣàngó reveals what must be corrected,
Ọya ensures that what is misaligned cannot stay in place.
Together, they do not punish.
They restore movement.
If you are experiencing:
Sudden change you did not initiate
Loss of stability in what once felt secure
A shift that feels uncomfortable but unavoidable
Then you are not being attacked.
You are being moved.
And movement without understanding creates fear.
Clarity does not stop change.
But it allows you to move with it instead of against it.
An Ifá consultation does not prevent the storm.
It reveals:
What is leaving
What must be released
And how to move forward without resistance
If you are ready to understand what is changing in your life:
